Acute rhinitis is defined as viral infection of upper respiratory tract characterised by nasopharyngeal inflammation with or without fever.
Acute rhinitis is commonly caused due to rhino virus. Incubation period is 24-48hours. The predisposing factors for acute rhinitis are
- Poor Nutrition
- Poor Digestion
- Over Crowding
- Exposure to cold
- Person with low immunity that is already suffering from some other disease.
Acute rhinitis is usually spread by droplet infection from an infected person when he/she coughs or sneezes.
The onset of acute rhinitis is sudden lasting for a fixed period of 7-14 days. Irritation of the throat,burning sensation of the throat,running nose. The discharge from the nose is characteristic THICK YELLOW GREENISH DISCHARGE suggesting it to be of infectious origin(viral usually). sneezing,sore throat,headache due to nasal blockage,mild rise in temperature,loss of appetite(anorexia).if you find the nasal discharge to be whitish is a good sign.
- Complete rest staying at home would lessen the chances of further spread of the infection.
- Keep yourself warm
- Steam inhalation.
- Liquid diet or easily digestible food
Contagious phase is first 2-4 days. Avoid contact during contagious stage.
